With sanctions against Russia starting to take effect as a result of the Russian/Ukrainian situation, there is an increased cyber security threat. These cyber threats include increased hacking, viruses, and malicious activity. As companies continue to monitor threats that may emerge, it’s a good time to make sure that not only are your company devices safe, but your personal ones are as well.
Here are some ways to mitigate your cyber risk:
- Latest Version
It’s important to check your cell phones and make sure they are running the latest version of iOS or the Android OS. Having the most updated version provides the most updated security.
- Patches/Updates
Most companies have an IT department that is pushing out Windows or Mac OS patches/updates to employee devices. At home, be sure your personal devices are also running the latest patches of Windows or Mac OS. Often, they are automatic updates but it’s good to double check incase you need to implement these updates manually.
- Anti-Malware Software
As a company, you should have an anti-malware software protection in place. If you don’t, now is a good time to get one! It’s important to make sure your home personal devices run an Anti-Malware software and have the latest updates installed. Larger companies will sometimes have an anti-malware software you can purchase at a discount for your personal devices. Check with your Office Manager or IT department to see.
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Most companies have a MFA step-in place providing additional layer of security. At home, try to implement this where possible.
Educating yourself and your employees about cyber risks is important. Be sure to have cyber insurance in case a cyber attack does occur. Make sure you have the proper limits or adjust them now, should something happen.
