Breast Cancer Awareness

As breast cancer awareness month comes to an end it’s important to continue to raise awareness and fight against breast cancer all year long. Breast Cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the United States. In 2024, an estimate of over new 300,000 cases were diagnosed, which is just over 15% of the total cancer cases.

People may experience different symptoms of Breast Cancer. These symptoms may include:

  • Irritation of the breast skin
  • Newly grown lump in the breast/underarm
  • Sudden change in size/shape of the breast
  • Pain in the breast area

Now, when it comes to getting tested for Breast Cancer, there are multiple stages where the cancer can be diagnosed at. There are 5 stages of breast cancer, and each stage indicates how advanced the cancer is.

Stage 0
The beginning stage shows the cancer has not spread to healthy tissue around it.

Stage 1
Indicates the cancerous cells have spread to healthy nearby breast tissue but is still a very small area.

Stage 2
Shows a small area of the breast has cancer cells and has grown larger.

Stage 3
Reveals the cancer has spread further into the breast & lymph nodes, and/or indicates a tumor of any size in the breast or muscle/chest wall.

Stage 4
The most advanced stage shows the cancerous cells have spread to areas beyond the breast, such as lungs, bones, etc.
