The Community Food Bank of NJ History
The Community Food Bank of NJ was founded by Kathleen DiChiara and is the largest anti-hunger organization in New Jersey. Since 1982, the CFBNJ’s mission has been to work towards ending hunger by distributing food to soup kitchens, food panties, and child & senior feeding programs. The CFBNJ distributes over 90M nutritious meals annually between Atlantic, Bergen, Cape May, Cumberland, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, and Union County.
Volunteering
TSIB employees were able to participate at the Hillside, NJ location. The CFBNJ’s volunteer activities provide unique opportunities for companies to give back and make a direct impact within the local community. At the Hillside location there is a large warehouse that serves as the heart of the operations. We created an assembly line and opened food pallets, sorted donated food items, packed boxes with shelf-stable food for seniors, and more.
As we worked side by side with each other, we laughed and mingled with our co-workers in other departments, that we don’t often see or work with. All of us were being driven by a shared commitment to make a difference in our local community. We felt as though we were part of a larger family united by a common cause – to spread kindness and alleviate hunger in our community. The day was fun, and everyone enjoyed the camaraderie, the mission, and the profound sense of community.
