Daman Sachdeva didn’t expect insurance to become her long-term path. 

With a background in Civil Engineering, she began as a field engineer working directly on projects before making an unexpected shift into an office role. That transition eventually led her to an Insurance Coordinator position.

“Switching from a field engineer job to an office position was an odd step,” she reflects, “But seeing the other side of the business made me want to further expand my knowledge and grow in my skillset in this industry.”

More than a decade later, that “odd step” has become the core of her career.

Seeing the Bigger Picture
For Daman, the appeal of insurance lies in its influence behind the scenes.

“Every analysis, policy review, or risk evaluation contributes to protecting individuals and businesses,” she says. “Seeing a project from start to finish is truly empowering and makes me feel like a key person in the progression of the project.”

Insurance may not always be the most visible part of a project, but it is foundational. Her engineering background sharpened her attention to detail and structured thinking, skills that now guide her approach to risk evaluation and process improvement.

Over the years, she has learned that success in the industry requires more than technical knowledge.

“Attention to detail, communication skills, technical proficiency, critical thinking, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment” are essential, she explains.

It is that combination of precision and perspective that defines her work — a balance she carries into her personal life, where intention and structure guide how she manages both responsibilities and priorities. By setting clear boundaries, prioritizing tasks, and managing her time efficiently, she ensures that she can meet professional demands while still making meaningful time for her two children and herself.

Finding Her Voice
As a woman in the industry, Daman has navigated moments where ensuring her voice carried equal weight.

“One challenge I faced was making sure my voice was heard with the same level of importance and impact as others,” she shares.

She overcame that challenge by building confidence through knowledge, adapting to change, and surrounding herself with colleagues and leaders who value diverse perspectives.

Her growth has also been shaped by a significant personal challenge.

As a bilingual professional, English being her second language has occasionally presented challenges in fast-paced, high-visibility discussions.

“At times, I may need a moment longer to process rapid dialogue or complex terminology,” she explains. “Because career advancement decisions often consider communication confidence and visibility in conversations, language-related barriers may have led to my contributions being overlooked. As a result, I believe this has impacted opportunities for advancement.”

Rather than allowing that to discourage her, she has focused on preparation and composure — ensuring her work speaks clearly, even when the environment moves quickly.

One of Daman’s recent achievements has been improving the accuracy and efficiency of the Annual Corporate Renewal process for one of her largest clients. By reducing errors and enhancing the client’s experience, her work directly contributed to meaningful operational improvement.

“Knowing that my contribution made an impact reinforces why I enjoy this role,” she says.

If she had to describe herself in one word, it would be “Reliable.” A trait built through consistency, discipline, and a commitment to doing the job, and doing it well.

Calm Under Pressure
Earlier in her career, Daman admits she sometimes reacted impulsively in high-pressure situations. Experience changed that.

“Now I take a deep breath and use a structured approach,” she explains. “I gather all the relevant data, analyze the impact, and prioritize what is most critical for the client and the team.”

Clear communication, early alignment, and fact-driven decisions have become hallmarks of her operating style. Remaining calm and organized under pressure allows her to make sound decisions, even when stakes are high.

Lifting Women Along the Way
Daman hopes to see more women in strategic roles, increased mentorship opportunities, and flexible policies that support work-life balance. Creating clear pathways for growth, she believes, is essential to ensuring women feel both seen and supported.

“It is incredibly important to see representation of Women Leaders in the workplace,” she explains. “When we see ourselves reflected in leadership, it empowers us all to reach higher.”

Her message to young women entering the industry is clear: your potential is limitless and is not chained down by your gender. Continue to pursue all the opportunities you grab a hold of and grow. She understands it can be challenging but believes it’s important to remember that your voice matters. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, speak up, and advocate for yourself. Build strong relationships, stay open to learning, and trust that your voice brings value.

A Culture of Opportunity
At TSIB, Daman has found an environment that supports her growth and she is intentional about creating that same opportunity for those around her.

“I enjoy working here because there are many opportunities to learn, develop skills, and grow professionally,” she says. “The TSIB community is very warm and welcoming.”

Looking ahead, she is focused on deepening her technical expertise and expanding her role in risk evaluation. Long term, she hopes to take on greater leadership responsibility and continue improving processes that make the organization more efficient. From engineering foundations to operational excellence, Daman’s journey reflects perseverance and quiet strength. Her story is a reminder that steady progress built through preparation and reliability creates impact that lasts.
