Last year the 6 leading U.S. General Contractors teamed up to create a consortium to help advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the construction industry. This year, Mortenson, Gilbane, DPR, Turner Construction, Clark Construction, and McCarthy do it again. The 2nd Annual Construction Inclusion Week (CIW) kicks off October 17th and continues through October 21st. The main goal continues to be to create awareness while celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the construction industry in offices, craft and jobsite crews, and industry affiliates.
Recently, companies and brands have moved to become more inclusive. Based on feedback from last year’s Construction Inclusion Week, a national CIW planning committee was put in place to develop a program that is not only impactful but is applicable for jobsites and offices of all sizes. Like last year, every day of the week has a theme where videos and communications support that day’s theme. The 2022 themes are:
Some improvements in the program this year include live-streamed content, facilitator tools, and more robust curriculum resources. More tangibly, construction Inclusion Week 2022 introduces a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Maturity Assessment. This assessment will be used as a baseline for targeted engagement with the training materials and future strategic implementation for industry firms.
As CIW creates more awareness, positive changes are expected in the construction industry such as harnessing & leveraging the capabilities and global reach of the construction industry and its affiliates to cultivate and perpetuate a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. More than 2500 companies & organizations have signed up to participate this year, which has more than doubled than last year.
This year, TSIB will be participating in Construction Inclusion Week, along with other industry partners like ABC, Culture of Care, AGC, and NAWIC. TSIB is continuing to promote and be a champion for creating “the right environment” in our offices. Both TSIB’s Human Resources and DiversityAssured Program teams are expected to present this week.
