3 Steps to Preparing Your HVAC System for Summer Heat

Written by The TSIB Team | April 18, 2025

With summer just around the corner, and warm weather approaches, it is almost time to switch your HVAC system from heat to air conditioning. As the temperature increases, it can be challenging to know the right approach for maintaining the best cooling performance at home.

Here are a few steps you can follow to ensure a more efficient and cost-effective summer while using your air conditioning unit.

  1. Check Air Filters
Make sure you are up-to-date by checking and cleaning your systems air filters regularly to ensure proper air flow throughout your home.

  2. Schedule Maintenance
Reach out to your HVAC technician to schedule a maintenance call prior to the summer season. This allows the technician to inspect your system and check for any issues or perform tune-ups before the warm weather hits.

  3. Schedule Thermostat
Setting up a schedule for your thermostat not only ensures your home temperature is comfortable, but it is the most efficient way to save money. It’s best to keep your system running and not to turn it off/on. When you're out of the house, setting your thermostat higher than usual (5-10 degrees), can help you save money and keeps your home comfortable for when you return.

By following these simple steps, you can optimize your air conditioning system's performance and ensure a comfortable home all summer long. Regular maintenance, clean filters, and a proper thermostat schedule will not only keep your system running smoothly but saves on energy costs as well. Avoid these potential risks by finding the right HVAC contractor for you.
