Construction Inclusion Week: Building the Foundation

October 19, 2021

Over these past couple of years, there has been a shift for companies and brands to be more inclusive. Often, it’s a lot of talk with some action taken at the time of the event. However, the Construction industry wanted to really make a difference. That’s why the 6 leading U.S. General Contractors teamed up to create a consortium called Time for Change.

Gilbane, DPR, Turner Construction, Mortenson, McCarthy, and Clark Construction Group all share a common goal to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the construction industry. They knew they couldn’t do this on their own and teamed with Affiliate Partners: Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Associated General Contractors (AGC), and Culture of Care to help further this goal.

The inaugural Construction Inclusion Week will be held October 18-22. Where Building the Foundation for Inclusion will be this year’s overall theme. During the week, each day will have its own theme that will encourage the promotion of inclusion and enable conversations regarding diversity. These are:

  • Day 1: Leadership Commitment and Accountability
  • Day 2: Unconscious Bias
  • Day 3: Supplier Diversity
  • Day 4: Job site Culture
  • Day 5: Community Engagement

Over 1100 construction companies have signed up to participate and receive access to the Construction Inclusion Week materials and resources. Since every company and organization is at a different place in their diversity, equity, and inclusion journey, hopefully, this week can create opportunities for you to begin or advance that journey.

At TSIB, we are happy to support Construction Inclusion Week and have activities and webinars scheduled all week. In addition, our President Nick Walsh, and our DiversityAssured Program advocates will be speaking internally to help educate and promote these conversations.
